About

Writing and Ephemera is a celebration of a literary life — of reading and writing.

Words make sentences.

Sentences make stories.

Stories make meaning.

Meaning makes life.

I’ve made a life for sixty-one years and counting. I discovered diphthongs and syllables in first grade. I entered the world of stories in the 1960s when I discovered Beverly Cleary’s Ribsy, Marguerite Henry’s Misty of Chincoteague, and Gene Roddenberry’s original Star Trek. I’ve made stories since 1984 when I wrote the first chapter of an epic fantasy novel in my basement. Two more novels have followed, along with numerous articles, essays, poems, and short stories.

I have experience as a son, brother, uncle, cousin, in-law, parents, grandparent, golfer, soccer fan, computer gamer, pastor, chaplain, and late bloomer baby boomer. Sometimes it shows in my writing. Sometimes it hides and will show its face at the right moment (hopefully).

As I envision retirement from my fantastic day job in a few years, this site is a launch pad from which I plan for a continuing chapter in which I will explore new literary worlds and create adventures for readers and fellow authors alike. I invite you to read, post, share, purchase, and otherwise enjoy what you find here!
